I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens, but it looks like when the tree is shaken, the nuts fall out. One can only hope for the best.

PM, I too am happy to hear that nothing drastic was wrong with the Commander, but one must not ignore chest pains. Usually there is nothing drastic, but one must always check. Cookies were not at fault. If they were, I would be producing a nice crop of daisies this spring.

Doris and I got a phone call from Mr. Chang this afternoon. Mr. Chang, in the inimitable Chinese fashion has stripped his property of most of its big shade trees, mostly with a hand saw. He had piled the brush neatly along the property line between his and the next property, which was recently abandoned by a pair of total loonies who didn't see the need for any maintenance in the past ten years. One day, they just walked away from the house and stuck the mortgage company with a property and house that is falling apart. Someone complained to the municipal authorities about Mr. Chang's brushpile, so he got a certified letter from the township telling him he had to remove the brushpile within 15 days or the township would do it for him and charge him $50/hour for the work. Of course, he panicked and called me first.

Doris and I told him he could just throw the brush over the fence into our field and I would take care of it. All afternoon, he and his wife worked like beavers and most of the brush is now in my field. I will burn it tomorrow.

Meanwhile, one of Doris' quadripeds (equine in nature) decided to rearrange some of the corall fence. She managed to split one post and break two rails, so I spent most of the afternoon repairing damage and wrestling alligators. Just kidding about the alligators. We haven't seen one here in weeks.

Now that the Chang's problems have been dealt with and my peaceable kingdom is in some kind of order, I think the sun is over the yardarm somewhere in the world, so it must be cocktail time.

Cheers,
