Here's one for you... Proof that 1 + 1 = 1

1) x = y
let x = y

2) x^2=xy
mutliply both sides

3) x^2 - y^2 = xy - y^2
substract y^2 from both sides

4) (x+y)(x-y)=y(x-y)
factor

5) (x+y)(x-y)/(x-y) = y(x-y)/(x-y)
divide both sides by (x-y)

6) x+y=y
simplifiy

7) y+y=y
substitute y = x

8) y(1+1)/y = y(1)/y
factor and divide by y

9) 1+1 = 1
simplify!
