Re: So, then, anyone buying Intel desktops should cancel and wait for Conroe, and for servers, while Intel has already suggested cancelling all Paxville orders by demoing Dempsey, even Dempsey orders should be cancelled for Woodcrest.

It is not a new concept, Chipdesigner. People should try to purchase the best computer there is, at the time they need it. That means if they can wait a bit, then they should. Conroe is at least 6 months out, probably more, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend waiting for that. Athlon X2 is probably the best performance/watt desktop part to get right now, or Pentium D 900 series if you happen to like Intel's high quality chipsets, you happen to need virtualization acceleration early, or you just want to go for price/performance (hard to believe, but Pentium D actually wins performance/$ these days). For mobile, it's a no-brainer. Core Duo is the best there is, bar none. In servers, it depends on the features you need, but performance/watt leadership is definitely with Opteron right now; however, I think Dempsey will give it a run for the money in performance, while offering more competitive platform features. It's a changing world, and something better is always around the corner. AMD has the better products in some markets, but their lead is going to dwindle, along with their market share and ASPs, as quickly as Intel can ramp their 65nm process.
