Yep, when I first started reading about ARR, last fall (right before the mREIT crash), some savvy analyst on Seeking Alpha wrote that mREITs were nothing but highly leveraged bond funds.

There's very little substance to most mREITs. Two or three people could run ARR and make Wild As* Bets all day for huge salaries. Calling ARR "highly" leveraged is an understatement. 9X leverage qualifies as "insanely" leveraged.
