I don't see Intel stumbling; rather, they have made a conscious decision to reach performance points through micro-architecture in the upcoming generation, while leaving the integrated memory controller for when FBD ramps up to reasonable price points and is able to take the place of direct connect DDR-n. If I were an AMD investor, I'd be worried about Intel beating AMD in performance prior to integrating the memory controller.
