If you delete all your cookies you will lose settings for charts etc (anything that has "save current settings" as an option)and anything that had "remember password" etc.
Again, what you've described is exactly what advertising spyware does. (it's called spyware because it also tracks what sites you visit, what ad's you click on etc)
download spybot search and destroy, run it, and the ad's will go away. I also got it from that Techtv site, where you can do a search and get more info if you want to.
