Israeli are not stupid, they tried Peres and Barak, and a peace offering by Barak was responded with terror, the Israeli then chose the leader that promised them peace through the elimination of terrorists, in essence doing what Arafat was to do all along, but could not bring himself to do. I already mentioned here the parallels between the period of 10948 when two Israeli terrorists groups were forced to disarm (guess who their leaders were, Begin and Shamir respectively, the peace makers thirty years later), all Arafat had to do to get a state was to follow David Ben Gurion lead. Arafat did not do it, now it is up to Sharon to disarm the terrorist factions.
