Researchers estimate 597 Mexicans were lynched between 1848 and 1928. Mexicans were lynched at a rate of 27.4 per 100,000 of population between 1880 and 1930. This statistic was second only to that of the African American community, which endured an average of 37.1 per 100,000 of population during that period. But rates by population don't give the totals, which the NAACP has kept statistics on but only record lynchings as "white" or "black", and hispanics, chinese, and any non-blacks being lynched as white. The Tuskegee Institute has recorded 3,446 blacks and 1,297 whites were lynched between 1882 and 1968.[1]
