For hybrids, I really like the 05 and 06 accords. Fasted 0-60 of all the Honda V6-s, luxurious, not earthy crunchy looking and gets in the high 30's. Runs on 87.

Battery maintenace is an issue with these cars, but all the manufacturers warranty the battery systems forever, so it's more of a hassle issue than an expense. Interestingly, the expected battery replacement has a potentially worse environmental impact from the lead than the CO2 caused by lower mpg in a conventional. All modern ULEV engines burn so clean, the only environmental impact is the CO2.
