I think the Democrats are not stupid (though sometimes, politically suicidal, like Kerry most recent "Regime Change" remarks), I believe they will revive the battle cry that worked so well for Clinton, "It is the economy stupid". Since the Republicans are not stupid either, they will do whatever is in their power (of the purse, meaning your tax money) to bring about (false) prosperity into the critical "mind forming" season (about January to the parties conventions). If they succeed, and the economy (and particularly jobs) seems to be on the rise, they have a good chance of winning. I fear, though that their success will be sufficient for only a "jobless recovery", namely no recession but a mild growth. A jobless recovery will not be sufficient, IMTO, to void the weapon of "it is the economy, stupid", and thus the Dems (unless they make every mistake imaginable, which they are capable of doing) will win. That will set us up for a year or two of reckoning, starting maybe as early as the elections next year.
