OK, in that case I'll feel flattered. Owls are wonderful birds, but pretty rare around the city where I live. A friend of mine had a hummingbird build a nest in a hanging plant on her patio last spring.
I recently saw something exciting right on my front lawn. I just happened to be looking out the window when I saw what I believe was a red-tailed hawk land with a mourning dove in its talons. The dove was struggling and was nearly as big as the small hawk. I couldn't bear it and went out to shoo the hawk away and save the dove, but when I opened the door, the hawk struggled to fly off again with his heavy prey. He had some difficulty, but ultimately got some altitude and was gone. I shouldn't have interfered anyway. Hawks have to eat, too. I just hate to watch the killing part and the terror the 'meal' feels before nature takes its course. I'm such a wuss.
