I would never short a biotech with a potential partnership (and huge gap up) on the horizon, but there is nothing wrong with shorting per se. It gives a need incentive for people to investigate and scrutinize companies. Naked shorting, however, and the often misleading financial "journalism" badly need to be reigned in. As do the various coordinated shorting (and pumping) schemes.
