Snake oil?
<But Ditzel & Co. are in a tough spot and their immediate future is tied to continuing to successfully sell this (IMO) technological snake oil. The question for you to consider is whether going to the 8000 will give them the combination of performance, power, and cost to keep them in business for another product development cycle given that Intel has niche firmly locked in its gunsights with Banias and its successors.>
chipguy,
Relative to you guys, I have no technical expertise. I agree with your second statement above - I would currently characterize TMTA as "a sliver" in mobile processor "leg" of the INTC elephant.
However, I'm puzzled by your snake oil reference and want to understand it because I recognize your technical expertise and appreciate your comments.
My frame of reference is that I own a TMTA-based Fujitsu 2110 with WiFi for access to my cable modem. My family loves it - it our second and most used machine in our home. For my applications, I notice no speed difference vs my 2.4GHz Dell with hard wire T1 connection at work. Several of my kids friends, after seeing and using ours, bought ones themselves. I think there are millions of PC customers whose needs are no more taxing, nor discernment any more sophisicated, than mine.
I figure if the Astro comes out comparable in performance for this segment of the market and with a lower price, TMTA will probably be viable for the next cycle. As with AMD, OEMs would have continuing financial incentives to see this happen.
TIA for any comments.
