Orphan drug status allows the company to write off ALL development expenses against profits. That is a big deal for the company tax wise. These drugs can make a lot of profit, if you can wipe out the taxes that is a big deal.
I have not seen a real speed increase, although it is increased somewhat, when there is a clear reason.
In other news, it was a nice up day for the market, but not AMBS.
