Q: What proportion of 2004 dollar sales of prescriptions drugs in North America and Europe were for generic drugs?

Nice job—the answer is 8%. [Source: ACS article cited by Biowatch in #msg-20698.]

The trick was to distinguish the generic share of dollar sales and the generic share of unit sales, which is a much, much higher number because unit prices of generics are much lower.
