Add to that Intel's continual feedback from huge manufacturing volumes and copy exact means that the process development guys get far more information about what actually works.

TSMC gets that too from those customers willing to engage in "risk starts" and early tape-out programs, but Intel does have the advantage of lining up their internally developed "lead vehicle", and co-developing the process to be best suited for that silicon design. It will obviously result in more efficiency between internal groups, than it would between TSMC and 3rd parties.
