"This is one of those issues that's very black and white with me."
The issue may be black and white but the application is not. Do you have a rule that there should be only one alias per household?
Is it not plausible that Lola's husband might join and they might use the same ISP or even the same computer?
Do you remember your friend posting from your computer? Should we assume that was you posting??
Here is a concrete example,
I have some very close friends that joined up for Silicon Investor. I told them that they could not post from my computer nor could they use my ISP.
They went merrily along and then recently some of them were terminated. They never used my computer and they never used each others computer they they can remember..and they didn't use my ISP. ...but they did use another ISP outlet. One that I am promoting to people for their protection against sites. But there are some sites I wont go to PERIOD even with every kind of protection that I can think of.. because of what can be mined from accessing the site.. There are people here who have very legitimate concerns about what people put on their profiles such as a redirect because of what a webmaster can do on his site....but I am going down a sidetrack.. as usual...
So one of my friends is still posting and the others can't. I know for a fact they aren't the same people but SI summarily says they are...
I have an extremely close friend who is a great futures trader..but he can't sign up here or on SI because he uses my ISP and it is plausible he might use my computer from time to time. So he said ..forget it.
You can't just assume alias' are the same people because they use the same computer or the same ISP. Smaller towns often dont have much of a choice and friends get together to join and post and they all might come from the same ISP. Now, they might not all have the same machine identifiable characteristics....but that didn't stop SI from terminating my friends. Even if they do have the same machine identifiable characteristics..I dont see anything anywhere about one membership per household.
