It's a good point you make about an investment chat site vs. general chat site. However, I think good investing tips can be derived from our personal interests in hobbies. If one wishes to invest in F or GM, a thorough product knowledge is useful information. I can imagine in SI's history, a lot of good technology plays were brought up by geeks like you and me and that understand and appreciate the technologies and how they may affect our everyday lives.
As for me, I am anxiously awaiting the 5th generation Camaro and saving my pennies for a Z06. By the time I have enough saved, I should be able to pick up one that's a beater for $3,000-$4,000!
