Well, here's your competition (and these figures were from a June 2002 article). Three years ago, all these large players were well beyond a "beta" phase.

This stock may be good for a quick scalp, but the fundamentals do not point to a long-term play.

Leading the way among cable providers rolling out interactive movie services is Comcast Corp. (Quote, Chart), according to a recent survey by TVPredictions.com. The site said the Philadelphia-based company is now offering VOD services in more than 3 million homes, a number expected to grow only slightly once Comcast and AT&T Broadband complete their merger plans and become the nation's largest cable/broadband provider.

A&T Broadband has not publicly released its VOD deployment numbers, which this publication has also queried the company about. Based on industry sources and its own research, TVPredictions pegged AT&T's VOD-ready customers at 350,000 out of its 14.3 million cable subscriber base.

Second in TVPredictions.com's tally is AOL Time Warner (Quote, Chart), which is said to be ready to serve up movies on demand to about 1.5 million of its 12.9 million cable subscriber base.

TVPredictions.com counted 700,000 VOD-ready customers out of Cablevision's (Quote, Chart) 3 million cable base (although only 24,100 homes are actually subscribing to the digital service that carries VOD service).

Cox Communications (Quote, Chart) came out with 600,000 VOD customers out of its 6.3 million base. Charter Communications (Quote, Chart) was listed with 500,000 VOD-ready homes out of its 6.8 million base.
