SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) -- The American Petroleum Institute said crude inventories rose 686,000 barrels for the week ended Dec. 2. Motor gasoline inventories were up 4.5 million barrels, the API said. Distillate stocks climbed 3.6 million barrels. The Energy Department had reported a 2.7 million barrel climb for crude, gasoline and distillate supplies.

SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) -- The Energy Department said inventories of crude, motor gasoline and distillates all climbed 2.7 million barrels for the week ended Dec. 2. Crude supplies stand at 320.3 million, or 11.1% above the year-ago level. Distillate supplies totaled 130.6 million -- 5.9% above the year-ago level and gasoline stocks were at 202.6 million, or 4.3% above the same level from a year ago. January crude was up 6 cents at $60 a barrel after an earlier rise to $60.55. January unleaded gas shed 1.1 cents to $1.5725 a gallon. January heating oil lost 1.1 cents to $1.761 a gallon.

Expectations for crude supplies are mixed but most analysts predict a climb in distillate inventories for last week. January natural gas tacked on 2.9% to trade at $13.88 per million British thermal units ahead of a Thursday update on stocks of the heating fuel.
