This was a dumb move all around. No merit to the suit against UCSD, and NAA/Cohen probably have few assets anyway. As trunovice correctly points out, even if the company manages to win it will take forever and you still have to collect.

Moreover, what about the risk of potential damages in a frivolous-lawsuit countersuit from UCSD? I could easily see UCSD doing this as the disclaimer was posted to protect their reputation from association with Potter/AIGI. Guaranteed the UC System has much deeper pockets and the will to see it through. Kicking a hornet's nest is a ridiculous business strategy.
