According to Micron, max. 4 watts for their 1 gig. DDR1 DIMM.

For their 16 chip 1 gig. DDR2 modules, it is about the same

If FBDIMMs require an additional 8 watts, then a fan might not be strictly needed, but some way to insure good air flow is needed. They can't just dissipate to still air.
