You remember when Windows 95 hit the scene?

Yeah, about a decade after the appearance of the first 32 bit
x86 chip. Was that the point you were really trying to make? wink

The funny thing is there was strong incentive to move from
16 bit x86 with all its segment crap (64 KB data structure
limitations, near and far calls etc) to 32 bit x86. But 64 bit
x86 for PCs seems little more than "blue crystals" to spur
sales of new hardware and software to a maturing market.
