A posting found on Linked In for a biofuels discussion group from 6 months ago had some useful DD in it. The author was Clay Rosson, President, City Water Filter Group and advisor to the AIGI/NVAE project.
750K buys you 25% equity into commercial algae to jet fuel project in Tulare, CA. CEC is providing $1.5M matching grant.
Here is an outline of the project:
The total value of Pacific Algae-Tulare is $8,000,000. The capacity of oil production is 4,000,000 gallons of algae oil annually with a corresponding output of 30,000,000 pounds of edible non-oil biomass. Oil is easily worth $2 per gallon, and non-oil biomass is easily worth $.50 per pound. Therefore, the first major investor may recover their entire principle within a single year, then continue to collect pure profit in subsequent years.
The current contract with the city is an exclusive 10 years to use of city land and resources at $1000 per month rent. An early group of 4 investors purchased .25% of the project with an investment of $20,000. The group holds title to an Alfa-Laval MAPX-207 centrifuge as collateral.
Because I had originally asked investors for $750,000 to build cultivation, harvesting and oil extraction facilities, a single investment of $750,000 buys 25% of the project.
As I continue my conversations with algae cultivation experts, 4,000,000 gallons oil/ 30,000,000 pounds edible non-oil biomass is a conservative estimate of output with the following inputs:
1) Cabon Dioxide
1200 Pounds Of CO2 Per Hour. Though probably the most important of the inputs and the limiting variable to output, it is invisible:
2) NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium)
500,000 Pounds Of Solid Dairy Waste Per Hour. This input is comprised mostly of fats, oils and greases, easy for algae to convert into biomass and lipids:
3) Sunlight
Spread Over An Area Up To 50 Acres.
4) Water
12,000,000 Gallons Of Clean Effluent Water Per Day From Tulare City Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Though source water for Tulare County, this flow of the Kings River roughly represents our constant water supply:
