performance on targeted workloads. Think of how much can
be done with a clean sheet of paper four issue wide x86 CPU
design. From what I have heard about the new Intel x86 micro-
architecture it will be very impressive indeed. AMD is going
to need more than a new socket, DDR2, and a 65 nm shrink
to be competitive in 2007. It will be interesting to see what
they have up their sleeve.
