I don't blame him, that was a pile of money that he paid.

I would do what I could to get the amount down.

Do some more DD and see if you can find the original complaint and see what the amount was. It may of been more than double that amount.

If it was, that makes him pretty sharp not to give in and pay ONLY what was truely owed.

A traffic ticket has more long term issues than back taxes that got paid, imo
