Yes, there are several versions of the Bible, but all say essentially the same thing with the exception of the Catholic versions where the apocrypha is added and some additional verses are placed elsewhere, especially in the book of Daniel. The other versions are all pretty much the same. Anyone truly studying Scripture in depth will want to use one that is close to a literal word for word translation (such as the NASB) and consult with Hebrew and Greek dictionaries, but the average Christian can feel perfectly safe with one of the good translations out there.

Different denominations will have differing views of various parts of their theology, but if they are truly Christian, their theology will not deviate to a significant extent from each other in regard to the core doctrines of Scripture -- especially the nature of God, salvation, the person and work of Jesus.

Probably all Christian denominations have some measure of doctrinal error, but it is when they stray too far on the core issues that their Christianity has to be questioned. I read a poll recently and in the fine print I noticed that one of the groups in the poll was "evangelical Christians", and the breakdown given on who they included under the heading of "evangelical Christians" were Mormons. Under no stretch of the imagination are Mormons Christian -- if they are counted as Christian, then the word loses all meaning. The Biblical meaning of "Christian" is anyone who accepts Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior -- being a member of a denomination, be it Baptist, Methodist, Episcopalian, Church of Christ, Catholic or whatever other denomination does not make one a Christian. Only trusting Christ and nothing else makes one a Christian and the only perfectly reliable source of information about God is Scripture. The cause of most cults and false religions can be traced back to their acceptance of extra-biblical sources of authoritative revelation, which without fail leads one into error.

BTW, I have no idea about the roller skates, but suspect it has something to do with "holy rollers" <gg>.
