OT-io io, at least you have made it to the 20,000 foot landmark. I've been eyeing a number of volcanoes in the northern Atacama that are just barely over 20K. Very little ice, and you can start from about a 12K or 13K base. I can't imagine taking that many days on one peak. You must have acclimatized on some nearby peaks.

The first day on El Misti, we went from 10K to 16.5K in six hours. That was a killer, but the next morning we woke up and saw the shadow of the mountain at sunrise on the clouds to the west.

As for meds, my buddy and I loaded up on Diamox and coca tea, and it still ended up being, take one step...stop for 30 seconds...catch your breath...take another step...slip back one step on the volcanic scree...etc.

But it sure was fun going back down1
