"Another woman was repeatedly charged under the law based on false reports from the man she bought her house from, even though she had paid for it in full. In another situation, “Human Rights Watch interviewed one tenant whose landlord got an arrest warrant issued against her just three days after ordering her to move out.”

According to the Arkansas Times, a state commission recommended changes to the law in January. Calling Arkansas landlord-tenant law “significantly out of balance,” the non-legislative study group urged 15 major reforms “intended to even the playing field between landlords and tenants.”"

Australian Finance Minister warns of Republican ‘crazies’

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia’s deputy prime minister warned Friday that the greatest threat to the U.S. economy are the “cranks and crazies” in the Republican Party, a rare foray into American domestic politics that was blasted by the opposition.

Wayne Swan, who also serves as treasurer and is his center-left Labor Party government’s ranking finance minister, took aim at the Tea Party during a speech to a business forum, breaking a convention among Australia’s major parties to steer clear of U.S. domestic political debates.

“Let’s be blunt and acknowledge the biggest threat to the world’s biggest economy are
the cranks and crazies that have taken over a part of the Republican Party,” Swan said.
