RTRAF..Key mine components finish long sea voyage in Kershaw By Joseph Garris Jr. News Editor It was a long journey and not without some hang-ups but some of the biggest and most expensive equipment needed to begin mining operations at Haile Gold Mine arrived at its destination last Thursday. The ball and sag mills reached the mine early Thursday after traveling over 142 miles by truck bed from the Port of Georgetown. The larger mill measures 192 feet long by 24 feet high and 24 feet wide. The second mill measures 140 feet long by 19 feet high and 18 feet around. The equipment traveled through Lake City after leaving the Port of Georgetown. From there, the two mills traveled through Florence and Hartsville along S.C. Highway 151, eventually arriving at property owned by Haile Gold Mine along Snowy Owl Road. The transportation required the efforts of various utility companies including Santee Electric, Progress and Duke Energy in order to temporarily take down power lines. The mills were expected to have arrived sooner but were delayed after some miscommunication in Lake City regarding the timeframe for when power lines could be temporarily disabled in order to allow the transport. The two mills first began their trip to the U.S. in India and Germany
