I think it will be another year until a high end LTE+Silvermont+decent_gpu phone makes more of an impact.
LTE is a requirement in mature markets, but many markets do not even have a 4G network. Intel's Z2580 platform will be announced at MWC, and based on the specs, and what we've already seen with Medfield, I think people will be surprised at how well it competes with the best from Qualcomm and Samsung.
We've already seen Lenovo's K900, which is a complete night v. day difference in build quality and capabilities over the K800. The first gen may have only sold 20k units, but that's not surprising given that it launched with a much older build of Android Gingerbread, and had a fairly unremarkable design. Intel's one key differentiator - their huge lead in single threaded CPU performance - was overshadowed by a single core implementation with weak GPU.
Z2580 fixes both of these, with a stronger dual core implementation, and 4x the GPU compute capabilities. Performance should meet or exceed the 2013 phone SOCs. We know this, since A15 cores are power hungry and will be difficult to extract performance in the power constraints of a phone. Same with the power hungry GPUs coming out. Intel will implement the 544MP2, and their process advantage will allow them to clock it higher than the others. I think from a performance standpoint, Z2580 will impress.
As for lack of LTE, that obviously hurts it from entering the U.S. markets, but there are millions of sales opportunities in China, India, Latin America, Russia, and other geos with huge emerging populations. I'm actually quite hopeful that Intel can make a significant entry with this product.
