The next FOMC Meeting is 30 January 2013 (1st scheduled meeting of 2013)
The press briefing is held at 2:15 p.m. ET on the days of FOMC statements in which quarterly projections are released. On those statement days, the FOMC statement will be released at 12:30 p.m. ET instead of 2:15 p.m. ET for when statements are released for other FOMC meetings during the year.
Fed Days now provide a double opportunity for the Fed to move markets, at 12:30 p.m. ET when the statement is released and at 2:15 p.m. ET when the chairman begins his press conference. The second session may have market moving news depending on the way that the chairman answers the questions posed to him during the Q&A session.
Nokia Corporation (ADR)(NYSE:NOK) shares suffered by 8.50% on hefty volume despite the company posted a better-than-than-estimated quarterly earnings. However, investors were disappointed on the company’s suspension of dividend.
The company posted net income of $10.7 billion on revenue of $10.7 billion, topping analysts’ estimates of $0.06 on revenues of $10.55 billion. It is also reporting an operating profit of $585 million.
The company built cash during the quarter – which is a critical sign. . It says that it now has net cash of $5.9 billion (€4.4 billion), after increasing it this past quarter by €800 million.
Despite the stronger performance, though, Nokia today said that it is proposing not to pay out a dividend for 2012. “Nokia’s Q4 financial performance combined with this dividend proposal further solidifies the company’s strong liquidity position,” it wrote in today’s statement. For 2011, the dividend was $0.27 per share.
