Round two starts in phone mast row

HUNDREDS of people who successfully opposed plans for a mobile phone mast near their homes now face a second battle.
Greenwich Council rejected plans by Hutchison 3G to put a 12m mast in a small wooded area between Brampton Road and Pinewood Road, on the Bexley/Greenwich borders.
But the company has now decided to appeal.
The mast will be two metres above the tree line, but the company says it will look like a standard telegraph pole and will blend in with the surroundings.
One resident said local people were fed up with phone mast applications in the area.
"If it was left to mobile phone companies, our area would look like a giant pin cushion with masts all over the place," said John Davey, who lives in Pinewood Road.
There are already masts at nearby Bedonwell School and several on the top of the St Joseph's annexe to Bexley College.
Another appeal has been lodged against the refusal to allow a mast near the junction of Brampton Road and Long Lane.
"Is there no end to this?" demanded Mr Davey.
"Are we doomed to spend all our time fighting planning applications from companies who want to ruin our environment?"
The appeal will be dealt with through written submissions and anyone who wants to oppose it can do so before March 20.
Objections should be addressed to Chartroom, Planning Inspectorate, Kite Wing, Room 3/02, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, temple Quay, Bristol, BS1 6PN.
