the suggestion that teachers take on an additional role as armed guards is really going too far. Handguns scattered through the midst of hundreds of kids, teachers marginally trained in the use of firearms, what could possibly go wrong? I was married to a principal for a long time, and her teachers were mostly kind and gentle souls, into nurturing the pursuit of helping the kids they are with daily to use their minds rather than use violence.
The two callings, teaching and armed law enforcement, are not very similar, so expecting a culture change to accommodate universal gun packing among the elementary school teachers is just going too damned NRA far. Just the subliminal of having kids acclimated to guns in view all day kind of changes the atmosphere, but i guess NRA marketing eventually had to reach the adolescent demographic.
