Those were Keynesian experiments: wars + tax cuts to stimulate economy.

The reality is that wars cause economic disaster, taxes also cause economic disaster. Only tax cuts combined with reduction in government spending can improve the economy . . . because the individual is better informed at resource allocation at the smallest local level than their overlords pretending to know it all from far away.
