DesertDrifter -- so in overall terms that resource, which sounds like one heckuva resource, really hasn't been hit that hard at all and is likely to survive our insults substantially intact in any event -- cool

using power from renewables to split water and use the hydrogen in place of fossil fuels has long seemed to me the obvious big-picture way to go, including what that'll do to enable efficient distributed/decentralized power re-generation capacity as needed to back up distributed/decentralized variable renewable sources as one use for that hydrogen (though in your case obviously your grade of geothermal resource can provide baseload-quality power generation beyond your [present] needs/uses there) -- and then toss in finally-realized fusion power for all the additional heavy-duty baseload demand anyone has or can conjure up

so, is your little rift still active? -- your ground's clearly still a bit warm -- any evidence of any lava flows in the area in the (recent) geologic past?
