the idea of the informationsphere being capable of being the fountain of youth, able to create immortality by being able to replicate anything found to be defective or past its expiration date at the cellular level by commanding DNA to do so... is one that i had not thought about, but it is a cool scenario.
However, this "Ponce de Leon" idea would only work if the machines didn't decide it was a mis-allocation of resources to perform such cellular tasks and decide it was more fun to play tennis or go sailing.
Or if some guy invents the virus to bring down the whole thing and tames this new enemy, hopefully it will not spawn a new religion, the quaint practice that has experience in catering to the information-averse.
Because at it sits now, rejecting the information culture almost sounds appealing. (a pioneer in this field is Michele Bachmann) Especially in the face of this almost-new thing of collective intelligence gone amok.
I still think if we can conceive of stopping them, it is possible. Saw Schwarzenegger do it once, even though he was one of them.
