They should just take the best partnership deal that is available. Let the pharma partner develop all the infectious disease indications (ABSSSI, Pneumonia, Bacteremia/Endocarditis, Malaria, TB, NDM-1, etc). PYMX could carve out Oral Mucositis and focus inhouse development on that, funded by the proceeds from the infectious disease pharma deal.
This approach would at least allow the company to survive, and should have been the strategy all along. A large pharma partner was clearly the preferable strategy because - 1) the sheer number of infectious disease indications, and - 2) the need to fully explore and optimize the dosing and safety characteristics of this brand new defenisin mimetic approach.
But of course Nic had his 'next Amgen' dream. He can still salvage something, but he needs to take the best pharma deal that's out there.
