I am not sure Arafat is a descendant of Ishmael, since he is an Egyptian. But frankly, that has little do with statesmanship, many descendant of Ishmael have shown great statesmanship, from Salah a Din to Sadat and Hussein. The latter two are responsible for 30 years of not having to send their sons to die in battle.
