Religious Jews claims to land are only to David and Salomon Kingdoms. I am not sure why, but many of the following
promises" are to land then settled by Canaanites, Yevusites, Edomites and the like. Many of the dicti of the Old Testament, are really to separate the Israelite monotheists from the local Pagans they replace. For instance homosexuality is forbidden as an abomination with a long list of other abominations (many of these "abominations" are still practiced by well meaning Christians, mind you) because it was practiced (as part of pagan rituals?) by those Canaanites the Israelite tribes inherited the land from.
Mind you, however, in Deut. 19:8, when discussing "Safe Cities" (where one committing manslaughter could flee to for safety), three such cities are designated for the "now" period (initial conquest post Moses), and only :" If the almighty will broaden your borders as he swore to your forefathers and will give you all the land he spoke of to give to your forefathers, then ....add three additional "safe" cities". That indicates to me that the promise to Abraham must have been somewhat conditional, since even in that passage in Deut, it does not sat "when I'll give you this additional land...", but only "If I give you that additional land. Thus, IMHO, the interpretation of the "promised land" being that which was under the David and salomon rule is probably correct.
