Re-enlistment cash bonuses are running as high as $150k(!!) for some key positions - by far the highest bonuses ever offered for re-upping. Overall recruitment remains behind target; according to the Army this is the toughest recruitment period they have had since the draft was eliminated.

This is the functional definition of a mercenary army.
