Hey maine!! :) Thru out history the Bible has been used to support the most intolerant, immoral and "ungodly" positions imaginable.... Altho none of us can judge, one can only imagine that God has not been pleased with the minds and acts of many.....
Within the last century, post WW2, there were Southern religious "zealots" who justified their abhorent racial bigotry and discrimination practices using the Bible, ie "the races don't mix".... This is no different than contemporary fundamentalists using the Bible to justify an antigay position, imo. We are first human, and all the rest is superficial.... And ignorance is, and will always be, ignorance.
I didn't find syl to be antisemitic, or antiJews. He adopted a strong anti-Sharon gov stance. I am no fan of Sharon either, whatsoever... Jews feel a sense of "collective responsibility", etc. But to say it is antisemitic to be anti-Sharon gov, or anti-IDF is nuts. I support neither. The Israel/Palestinian situation is complex and tragic... If there were specific anti-Jewish statements in syls posts, I didn't see them. If there were not, it is anti-American to disallow syl the right to express political views, especially regarding Israel, where without US support Israel would cease to exist....
The fact that Biblically sanctioned anti-gay (anti-human) rhetoric was permitted, while anti-Sharon gov was heavily criticised is silly. Coat hangers, handicapped kid and 3 legged frogs were expressions of gross ignorance, and deserve no further comment....
As you are aware, I have other very meaningful and profoundly important stuff to involve myself with now. And I honestly thank you for your help. This is trivial and ignorance rarely dignifies a response. You are top notch!! :)
