Skyworks and Motorola to Jointly Develop TETRA-Based Power Amplifiers for Public Safety and Security Applications -- Multi-Year Business Development Deal Expands Relationship Beyond Handsets
Tuesday September 27, 8:00 am ET

WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2005--Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS - News), a global leader in analog, mixed signal and digital semiconductors for mobile applications, today announced that it has signed an exclusive agreement with Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT - News) to jointly develop Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA)-based power amplifiers. The custom solution will be leveraged in Motorola's two-way radio platforms designed to meet the stringent requirements of public safety, government and enterprise customers worldwide. TETRA is Europe's open digital radio frequency (RF) standard defined by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute and has been adopted by other countries in Asia and South America.

"We are delighted to be working with Motorola on the development of solutions that aid in public safety and security applications," said Sean Martin, senior director of marketing for Linear Products at Skyworks. "Our agreement highlights how Skyworks is leveraging its core analog technologies and capabilities to help customers develop linear products for a wide variety of applications."

In 2004, Skyworks launched the Linear Products business unit whose charter is to aggressively leverage the company's core analog product portfolio and modeling capabilities, along with its strong catalog sales channels and specialized rep and distributor networks, in non-handset applications. Thus far, Skyworks has secured several strategic design wins in the medical, broadband, automotive and industrial markets.

Skyworks is a key supplier to Motorola, delivering innovative front-end modules that are at the heart of many of Motorola's GPRS cellular phones, including the popular RAZR model.
