Yes Avast is great also. A lot of people prefer Avast to AVG because it tested better with less false positives and it seems to be a little better with detections.

The reason I always throw out AVG as a recommendation is because it has a simpler interface and also has web link scans for those less-savvy users on the web. It also has a great anti-cookie tracking add-on for your browser to disable all trackers.

So when it boils down to it, they are both great and I think Avast is an excellent solution.

While on the subject, I would be remiss not to mention AdBlock Plus. For those who use Firefox or Google Chrome as your browser, you must get the Adlock Plus add-on (go to www.adblockplus.org). If you aren't using Firefox or Chrome, you should make the switch. This add-on will block most every ad, including those flash ads that might be malicious and activate when you simply mouse over them with your pointer.
