Re: You are going on the limb saying that it will become even more aberrant in the future, and attack people who say the opposite will happen ...
First, I'm not attacking anyone, unless you count those people on the opposite end of the spectrum who are counting on AMD market cap surpassing that of Intel's. Besides, there's nothing wrong with believing there is NO aberrant difference between Intel's and AMD's valuation. You can't judge these two by your previous examples (HP/Dell, Coke/Pepsi, Sony/Phillips), since Intel's position is far more dominate relative to AMD. Only Intel will have 4 65nm 300mm fabs online next year. Only Intel will have strong businesses in chipset, networking, and platform technologies that they can leverage together to make the most competitive total solution. Only Intel will have a marketing team capable of communicating their value proposition to the critical end users and IT departments for businesses around the world. And only Intel will have the unique OEM relationships that will enable them to deliver the best solutions in highest volume.
AMD has had to work long and hard to be where they are today, and only because they've enjoyed the last couple years of a strategic blunder where Intel used a power inefficient micro-architecture for servers without key features such as dual core and 64-bits originally architected to fit in seamlessly with the design. Intel has had to scramble to catch up, but they've also had a plan in the works for several long years where they can put their best engineering talent towards a design far more power efficient than anything they've delivered so far. And you can see the details of this new micro-architecture in the collateral presented this last IDF. It's clear to me why Intel's market cap is justified. They are actually making the profits because they have the infrastructure in place, the software tuning in place, the supply chain in place, the sales teams in place, the fab capacity in place, and all else that is necessary to get their products to market and reap the best possible margins. And that's why they deserve to be priced so much higher than their nearest competitor.
Re: BTW, I wonder if you are just saying all that, or if you actually believe what you say, and have invested some money along the lines of your hypothesis? The people you attack apparently did put some money on the line.
I have announced to you guys my AMD trades since I started posting on these boards. I sold my last AMD several months ago when I felt their gains were nearing their peak. I had bought in the early teens and sold in the mid-20s, and if you search the iHub history, you'll probably find my sales and purchases in detail. As for my INTC, I already own many shares, as I believe I've said enough times before. My money has been where my mouth is for quite some time, in spite of hardly ever seeing the same from you hypocrites.
