Re: / Intel is going to quickly catch up /
How ?
Step 1. Paxville next month
Step 2. Dempsey and Blackford in Q1
Step 3. Woodcrest 6-9 months later.
Re: Most laughable was "AMD won't hold these gains through next year" !
..what with Fab36 online and new Opterons still coming through like there was no tomrrow.
Do you still expect Intel to be capacity constrained next year when 4 65nm 300mm megafabs start cranking out Xeons and Pentiums? Part of AMD's success comes from them filling orders that Intel can't commit to. If they build a new fab and Intel also adds capacity, then the market has to make a choice and someone ends up with empty fab space. I'm saying that someone is going to be AMD, and with a brand new factory, that's gonna hurt.
Re: I'd agree that with China's 100 mio. internet users currently online - and expanding, there will be room for even Intel to grow.
Don't laugh .. China is a lucky straw for Intel, without this "new" market, there would have been a real danger of Intel sitting on inventory in my opinion !
There's China, and then there's India, and Latin America, and Brazil, and many other emerging nations that have record growth rates that continue to surpass industry estimates. If demand were to simply die down, yeah it would hurt Intel, but it would absolutely kill AMD.
