Dollar Poised to Rise vs Euro for a 4th Week in 5, Survey Shows

Tokyo, Feb. 24 (Bloomberg) -- The dollar may gain for a fourth week in five on optimism growth in the world's largest economy will outpace Europe's, a Bloomberg News survey found.

Of the 30 analysts, traders and investors polled by Bloomberg News on Friday, 43 percent recommended buying euros against the dollar, down from 49 percent a week earlier. A day after the survey, European Central Bank President Wim Duisenberg said the economy of the dozen states sharing the euro probably won't recover this year.

``We've been seeing a gradual shift in sentiment'' in favor of the dollar, said Marcel Kasumovich, head of currency strategy for the 10 largest industrialized nations at Merrill Lynch & Co. ``People are beginning to step back and think that geopolitical concerns aside, the U.S. economy is not in such bad shape when compared with Europe and Japan
