One ugly fact, in the case of RNAi, are off-target effects. But that is not to say RNAi technology isn't still in the running. It is generally more effective at gene supression than traditional antisense technology. It's just not as specific as was hoped.

The obstacle to discovery is the illusion of knowledge.
