Wook, my understanding is that an expired patent treatment that gets bundled with a patented component gets to ride the shirt tails of the patent protection provided for the new product. There was buzz a while back about how some of the statin drug suppliers that had product going off patent were just coupling their expiring product with an enhancing component so that a new patent could be applied for, affording protection to both.
