It depends on the broker.

I recently bought 10k shares on margin at $1 and another 10k at $1.15. The difference was that it had a 100% margin requirement. So I needed $10k buying power to buy $10k of stock.

No big deal, same interest rate, and I had the excess buying power in the account...
